We’re back from IRCE 2017 and we couldn’t be more thrilled!
Spread over 4 days in June in sunny Chicago (the weather was beautiful), IRCE brings together retail facilitators, small businesses, and major corporations.
TL;DR: If you’re in retail or eCommerce, you need to be at IRCE.
We, at .STORE domains, couldn’t pass up the opportunity to meet the best in the industry and tell them about the first eCommerce domain extension in the world. Here are our top 4 takeaways from this industry event:
There’s a LOT going on. A LOT.
If one were to spend just 5 minutes at every booth, one would need 50 hours! That’s not including the amount of time it takes to navigate through the expo hall. Then, there is the immensely interesting speaker line up, the networking events, the post-event parties, and so much more. Phew![/mk_custom_list]
It’s the most relevant event for retail and eCommerce
Over the course of 3 days, we met some super interesting people from the industry. In the conversations that we had at our booth, on the expo floor, or even at lunch, we learned tons about the current trends in the retail and eCommerce space. The best part? Everyone we spoke to about .STORE immediately grasped the significance of the domain! In exchange, we got some pretty interesting insights that we are sure to loop into our marketing strategy for .STORE.[/mk_custom_list]
The expo hall is basically Marketing 101
With hundreds of exhibitors vying for the attention of the attendees, the economics of demand and supply at IRCE result in the most innovative marketing activities we’ve seen at expos and events. The folks at Maropost kept mounds of their adorable monkey toy all over the floor while yet another exhibitor figured out that the best way to reach attendees was through their stomachs – free bacon! We also saw makeup kits, the softest llama plush toy, a super simple yet super addictive ‘ring-the-hook’ game, and a lot more!
We had to get a piece of the action which is why we teamed up with PrestaShop to giveaway an Apple Watch to one lucky winner. To participate, attendees had to tweet a photo of themselves with the giant PrestaShop puffin mascot, Preston.[/mk_custom_list]
eCommerce is here to stay (and grow)
Did you know that nearly half of the expo floor space is already booked out for IRCE 2018? Although major retailers such as Amazon are moving into the physical retail space, eCommerce is and will continue to be a beast. While eCommerce software and platforms were present at IRCE, a major chunk of the exhibitors comprised of eCommerce and retail facilitators. While one would argue that this is nothing out of the usual, the sheer variety and scale that we saw go to show that eCommerce is no longer a subset of commerce and retail but is, in fact, an independent behemoth in terms of numbers, revenue, and a contributor to the global economy.[/mk_custom_list]
